- One of the best point guards ever, Gary Payton came to the Lakers basically for the chance to win a championship in 2003-04. He joined Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal in an incredible starting line-up. Everything went as planed until the Lakers were defeated in the NBA Finals by the Pistons.
