- Magic and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were the key members of one of the best basketball teams in history: the "Showtime" Lakers. The incredible collection of players around them included James Worthy, Norm Nixon, Jamaal Wilkes, Michael Cooper, Bob McAdoo, Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis and A.C. Green among others. Those Lakers won 5 NBA titles in the 80's.
- Lakers vs. Celtics and Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird are two of the most classic rivalries of all time and raised the status of the NBA making it known around the world. They met in the Finals 3 times: Boston won in 1984 but Magic and the Lakers had revenge in 1985 and 1987.
