- Kupchak won the Olympic Gold Medal in Montreal 1976
- 1976-77 All-Rookie First Team
- As a the Lakers General Manager since the departure of his former boss and Laker legend Jerry West, Kupchak has been in the news a lot for the acquisitions and trades made and not made. He was involved among other movements in the arrival of Karl Malone and Gary Payton for the 2003-04 season, the departure of Derek Fisher the next season, the trade that sent Shaq to Miami for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Brian Grant, later the bad move of sending Butler to Washington for Kwame Brown and his desire not to trade Andrew Bynum for Jason Kidd. But after receiving criticism for not building something good around Kobe, the trade that sent Brown to the Grizzlies for Pau Gasol made him look like a genius. Kupchak also traded for Trevor Ariza and Shannon Brown and with the only exception of Kobe Bryant he is the main responsible for the championship roster of 2008-09. |
