- After being drafted by the Lakers in 2005, Turiaf was diagnosed with an enlarged aortic root, a health problem that not only threaten to end his basketball career but was also dangerous for his life. The Lakers voided his rookie contract but paid his medical treatment. Turiaf successfully underwent an open-heart surgery on July 26, 2005 and despite being expected to miss the entire 2005-06 NBA season he recovered more quickly than expected and signed a new contract with the Lakers just six months after his surgery.
- The most enthusiastic supporter when he is on the bench, Turiaf has earned a lot of playing time moved from power forward to center because of the unending injuries of the Lakers big men (Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol). He compensates the usual size difference with the opponent center with his energetic style.
- Turiaf has also contributed a lot with the Lakers 2007-08 second unit (with Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic and Luke Walton) that is regarded as one of the best in the league, usually outperforming the opponent's bench and even creating problems to opposing starting lineups. |
