- Inducted into Hall of Fame as Player in 1995
- Along with George Mikan and Jim Pollard formed one of the best frontcourts in basketball history and built the NBA's first dynasty, leading the Minneapolis Lakers to 5 Championships between 1949 and 1954.
- In 2002, during halftime of a Lakers-Timberwolves game, the pioneer Minneapolis players Vern Mikkelsen, George Mikan, Slater Martin, Clyde Lovellette, Coach John Kundla and Arlee Pollard (widow of Jim Pollard) were presented with championship rings, the same provided by the NBA to the Los Angeles Lakers championship players that same year.
