- Inducted into Hall of Fame as Player in 1959
- George Mikan was the first NBA superstar and the first dominant center. His presence was so big that led to that famous marquee in the Madison Square Garden announcing "George Mikan vs. the New York Knickerbockers".
- Along with Vern Mikkelsen and Jim Pollard conformed one of the best frontcourts in basketball history and built the NBA's first dynasty, leading the Minneapolis Lakers to 5 Championships between 1949 and 1954.
- Led the league in scoring 3 times
- Was an All-NBA 1st Team 6 times.
- Was the 1953 NBA All-Star Game MVP
- In 2002, during halftime of a Lakers-Timberwolves game, the pioneer Minneapolis players Vern Mikkelsen, George Mikan, Slater Martin, Clyde Lovellette, Coach John Kundla and Arlee Pollard (widow of Jim Pollard) were presented with championship rings, the same provided by the NBA to the Los Angeles Lakers championship players that same year.

- He never won a season or finals MVP because there was no such an award then.
- Mikan was selected for the 25th and 35th NBA Anniversary Teams of 1970 and 1980 and one of the NBA 50 Greatest Players in 1996.
