- Jerry West is almost a synonymous of the Lakers franchise. He was drafted in 1960 and spent the next 14 seasons as one of the NBA's biggest stars, so big that the league logo includes his left-handed dribbling silhouette. He was a member of the legendary 1971-72 team that also included Wilt Chamberlain and Gail Goodrich and set a record of 33 consecutive victories before winning his first NBA Championship after years of suffering Bill Russell and his Celtics in the Finals.

- Jerry West retired as the NBA's leading playoff scorer and the Lakers all-time leader in scoring, assists, field goals made, free throws made and minutes played.

- In his first season as Laker coach in 1976-77 he had an NBA-best 53-29 record to take the team to the playoffs for the first time in 3 years. He had an overall record of 145-101 (.589) in 3 seasons.

- From 1979 to 2000 West occupied different positions in the Lakers front office: consultant, scout, General Manager and Executive Vice President. He was the General Manager in the years of the Showtime (since 1982) and the main architect of the Lakers roster that included Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal and gave the franchise 3 titles.

- Among an immense list of honors and awards, Jerry West was the only player in the losing team to get a Finals MVP trophy, was selected 10 times for the All-NBA 1st Team, 4 times for the NBA All-Defensive 1st Team and 14 times for the All-Star Game, once led the lead in scoring (1969-70) and once in assists (1971-72). He was also awarded as the 1994-95 Executive of the Year and selected as on of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996.
