- Nine games into the 2007-08 NBA season, Ariza was acquired from the Orlando Magic in an trade for Maurice Evans and Brian Cook. He was brought mainly because of his defense, athleticism and big potential.
- A coach favorite, Ariza broke a bone on his foot in practice on January 20, 2008 after 24 promising games with the team, he missed the rest of the regular season and returned for the 2008 Playoffs.
- Ariza was a key member on the Lakers 2009 Championship team. He was the starter at small forward, did an excellent defensive job, and in the playoffs he made 47.6 percent of his three-pointers and sparked the team offensively in decisive moments.
- In the 2009 offseason he became a free agent and didn't accepted the $5.6 million a year offered by the Lakers. In a strange the team decided to stop negotiations and signed Ron Artest. In a virtual swap of small forwards, Ariza went to Artest's former team the Rockets, accepting a deal similar to the one offered by L.A.
