NBA Championships Details:
2008-09 with Los Angeles Lakers
2009-10 with Los Angeles Lakers
- Immediately after selecting him in the draft, the Lakers hired legendary center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as a special assistant to work with the team's big men, especially Bynum. - In the Lakers' season opener against the Denver Nuggets, on November 2, 2005, Andrew Bynum became the youngest player ever to play in an NBA game at 18 years and 6 days old. - The ahead-of-schedule development of Andrew Bynum and Jordan Farmar in the 2007-08 season was a relief for a team that was needing a solid roster to try to revert Kobe Bryant's demand to be traded. - Bynum was playing solidly and being a reference in the post with averages of 13.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks while leading the NBA with a .636 field goal percentage when on January 13, 2008 against the Grizzlies he suffered and injury that at first looked like a sprained left knee but later was diagnosed as a bone bruise in his knee and a subluxation of his kneecap. Although surgery was not needed, it kept him out for the rest of the season. His injury moved the Lakers to trade Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol. His absence was fell more than never in the 2008 NBA Finals where the Celtics outpowered the Lakers. - After a slow start in 2008-09 he finally was raising his game averaging 26.2 points, 14 rebounds and 3.2 blocked shots in five games but almost like a déja vu, on Jan 31, 2009 and again against the Grizzlies, Bynum injured his knee (the other one) and missed the next 32 games of the 2008-09 season. This time he did return for the playoffs and although he saw his playing time limited by his constant foul trouble, he was able to contribute to the Lakers 15th title. - Who was supposed to be the player of the future for the Lakers ended up being the key player to get Dwight Howard. Bynum grew to become the second-best center in the NBA but also showed an attitude and a level of immaturity that decided the Lakers to trade him for Howard. With a core group of players not getting any younger (Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash) the Lakers needed a player who could provide solutions immediately and that was not Andrew Bynum. In the same trade that brought Howard to L.A., Bynum was sent to the 76ers. - Originally selected by the Lakers with the 10th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Bynum averaged 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 2012, when he also was named to his first All-Star Game and to the All-NBA Second Team. In his 7-year career at L.A. he won two championships. |
