| After the departure of Shaq, Phil, Gary and Karl, and the arrival of nine new players, everybody knew this wasn't going to be an easy season for the Lakers. But few would dare to tell you they were going to miss the Playoffs and be a draft lottery team. The season started bad with Odom lost on the floor and the injuries of two of the projected centers, Divac and Grant. It got worse with the resignation of new coach Rudy Tomjanovich because of health issues and then to predict a dark future Kobe injured his ankle and missed 14 games, just to return and see Odom and Mihm go into the injured list for the rest of the season. Divac returned to show it could have been different if he'd been healthy but it was too late and the Lakers missed the playoffs for the 1st time in 11 years and just the 5th in franchise history... the kind of unexpected contribution of Chris Mihm and the consistent game of Caron Butler, specially in the worst moments, he showed he could be the helping hand Kobe needs. |

Lamar Odom couldn't prove he is a star. He had good numbers but didn't cover the expectations. He never got 30 points, even without Kobe. |
