May 8 - Utah. The Lakers won a fantastic game 111-110 at Utah to take a 3-0 command of the Western Conference Semifinals.

It was a thrilling game, with everybody making big shot after big shot, but the Lakers were perfect in the final seconds while the Jazz fell short in the final play, twice.

L.A. was down by 4, 100-96 with 2:47 to play when Lamar Odom made both his free throws and then a three-pointer to put the Lakers ahead 103-102. Kyler Korver, who had a terrific game from the bench with 20 points in 9-for-10 shooting, answered with his fifth 3-pointer. After a free throw by Wesley Matthews gave the Jazz a 106-103 margin with 54 seconds left, the Lakers went on an 8-2 run that included back-to-back threes by Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher to take the lead for good.

But when the Lakers had everything under control an incredible omission from the referees gave Utah a final chance. With 4 seconds remaining and the score already 111-110, Ron Artest inbounded the ball to Fisher who was being grabbed by the waist and thrown to the floor and never reached the ball. No foul was called and after a time-out Deron Williams missed a long two-point shot from the top of the key. Matthews tipped the ball as time expired but miraculously for the Lakers it didn't go in.

Kobe Bryant had 35 points and 7 assists. He scored his team's first 9 points when all his teammates were missing in a Lakers 17-point first quarter and also scored 9 in the final minutes of the fourth, proving once again that he is the best clutch player in the league.

Deron Williams had 28 points and 9 assists for the Jazz, that In the second quarter led by a many as 13 points before the other Lakers started to make their contribution. In the third Pau Gasol got 10 of his 14 points. He also dominated the boards and ended with 17 rebounds in the game. Ron Artest scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half and he apparently found his long range shot, something the Lakers have been missing in this playoffs. Fisher scored 20 points and his 3 pointer with 28.6 seconds left just added another item to his unending list of big shots.

Andrei Kirilenko returned after more than a month without action with a strained left calf and had 8 points, 6 rebounds and a big ovation.

On Monday the Lakers will have a chance to sweep the series and advance to the Western Finals for the third year in a row.

The Quotes

Phil Jackson (LAL Coach): "He (Kobe) played a great game tonight. He made some shots and made some defensive plays. Just his tenacity is a factor for us."

Kobe Bryant (Lakers): "It was fun basketball to watch, I'm sure. Guys just coming down making big shot after big shot, and big play after big play. It was certainly fun to be a part of."

Ron Artest (Lakers): "Kobe and the fellas, they continue to give me confidence, just to move on and play the next game"

Jerry Sloan (Jazz Coach): "We've got our backs to the wall. We had our backs against the wall with these guys to begin with because they're a great team."

Kyle Korver (Jazz): "It felt like it was just kind of a slugfest, Whoever was going to miss first lost. We got the ball back, just didn't quite pull it off."

Deron Williams (Jazz): "It's a tough loss, period. We were again in the game and had a chance to win the game and things aren't going our way"
