May 16 - Oklahoma City. The Lakers had the game in their pockets but the Thunder stole it from them in the final two minutes to get a 77-75 win and take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Semis. Andrew Bynum scored 2 of his 20 points to put the Lakers ahead by 7 with just 2:08 left in the fourth but those were L.A.'s final points of the game. Durant stole a pass from Kobe Bryant, Steve Blake committed a turnovers in the next possession, Kobe missed his next two shots -- he was 9-for-25 for 20 points--- and with the Lakers already down by 1 and needing just a two point play Metta World Peace couldn't inbound the ball to Kobe so he went with Blake who missed a 3-pointer from the right side with 5 seconds left. Despite not winning the game, at least the Lakers were able to give a good fight and weren't erased from the floor like in game 1. The difference was basically their physicality and the good defense they played on Westbrook and Durant for most of the game. L.A. started the third quarter with a 48-45 deficit but they held Oklahoma City scoreless for the first 4 minutes and allowed just two baskets in the first 8 minutes. They didn't scored much, though, and won the period 18-12. Kobe had 4 steals, World Peace 3 and Bynum 4 blocks while Pau Gasol played aggressive and finished with 14 and 11 rebounds. Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 22 points, Russell Westbrook added 15 and Serge Ibaka, the NBA's block leader in 2012 had 8 points and 7 blocks. |

The QuotesMike Brown (LAL Coach): about Kevin Durant... "He used his length on Kobe. Coming up with that steal was huge. 'That's what great players are supposed to do. They're supposed to take on the challenge at the end of the game and he did. ." Kobe Bryant (Lakers): "What they did the last few minutes there, they just made gambles. They just jumped in the passing lanes. It's something that we're not accustomed to seeing. It's just flat-out risks defensively." Metta World Peace (Lakers): " 'Blake was wide open. We didn't have any timeouts left and he got a clean look, a really good look. 'He can knock that down. " Scott Brooks (Thunder Coach): "They won't quit. That's not in their DNA,'They're not wired that way and if they were, they wouldn't be here. We're not going to win every game but we're going to fight to the last second of the game and we did that tonight." |
