May 6 - Dallas. Kobe Bryant still believes his Lakers are going to win these series. If they do they will be making history because nobody has ever got out of a 0-3 hole like the one the Lakers fell after losing 98-92 at Dallas.

Maybe Kobe thinks so because he knows they were close once again, and like it happened in game 1, it just slipped away in the final moments. L.A. completely dominated the paint outscoring Dallas 56-20 but the Mavericks compensated the situation by making 12 three-pointers, five of them in the fourth quarter.

Even playing without suspended Ron Artest, L.A. had the control of the game for a big part of the second half. Pau Gasol, who had another below average game scored 2 of his 12 points with 5:07 remaining to put the Lakers ahead 85-78, but then Dirk Nowitzki (who was on fire all night and had 32 points) answered with a three that started the 20-7 run the Mavs used to close the game and put the Lakers on the brink of elimination.

Andrew Bynum's role was big again and he ended with 21 points and 10 rebounds. He took 16 shot attempts, the same amount taken by Bryant to get his 17 points and Lamar Odom, who started in place of Artest and had 18 points and 6 rebounds.

This season will be signaling the end of Phil Jackson's glorious career that include an NBA record 11 Championships. The first step in the Lakers recovery is to try to win game 4 to avoid their coach the bad feeling of retiring being swept for the first time in his 20 years guiding teams.

The Quotes

Phil Jackson (LAL Coach): "We’re disappointed. We feel like Games 1 and 3 we controlled the pace of the games. They were better at finishing the games than we were. But we still believe we’re going to win the next game and we’ll go from there.”

Kobe Bryant (Lakers): “I might be sick in the head or crazy. I think we’re still going to win the series.”

Lamar Odom (Lakers): “We have a decision to make, whether it’s our time or somebody else’s time,” Odom said. “How do you want your story to play out?”

Rick Carlisle (Mavs Coach): "Just about everything that happened down the stretch was a direct result of him (Nowitzki) either scoring the ball or making a play to get somebody a shot, or make a pass for an assist for a 3 or a 2 or whatever it was."

Dirk Nowitzki (Mavericks): “We’re not good enough to relax or take the pedal off the metal, You don’t want to ever give a champion life, so hopefully we can have the same effort and the same crowd and a great game on Sunday.”

Shawn Marion (Mavericks): "We don’t want to open the door for them because then it will be hard to close."
